About This Program

Overview
The CAM/CAD Technical Designer Apprenticeship Program trains apprentices to create detailed digital models and designs using CAD/CAM software, supporting product development and advanced manufacturing processes. CAM/CAD Technical Designers apply their engineering and mathematical knowledge to solve problems creatively, working closely with engineering teams and customers across industries such as manufacturing, robotics, agriculture, and construction. Their work ensures accurate, functional designs that can be efficiently produced.

Program Structure
Apprentices gain hands-on experience in engineering, maintenance, tool & die, or drafting departments while completing coursework toward an Associate’s Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (or Computer-Aided Design Technology). Courses cover technical drafting, materials and processes, CNC programming, 3D solid modeling, and technical communication. Graduates are prepared to read blueprints, generate CAD/CAM drawings, plan manufacturing processes, and maintain quality control. Upon completion, apprentices earn Journeyworker Papers from the Department of Labor & Industry, an Associate’s Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design, and the German Technischer ProduktdesignerIn Apprenticeship Certificate (DIHK).
