About This Program

Overview
The Polymer Process Technician Apprenticeship Program prepares apprentices to operate, monitor, and troubleshoot plastic injection-molding machines and related systems. These technicians ensure production runs efficiently by maintaining equipment, regulating process parameters, and meeting quality standards. They also collaborate with mold designers and toolmakers to optimize mold performance, improve cycle times, and ensure high-quality output through the principles of scientific molding.

Program Structure
Over 2.5 years, apprentices receive both hands-on training and classroom instruction in subjects such as polymer materials, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, and programmable logic controls (PLC). They learn to set up, adjust, and maintain extrusion, blow-mold, and injection-mold lines while performing quality control and preventive maintenance. Upon completion, apprentices earn multiple credentials, including Journeyworker Papers from the Department of Labor & Industry, College Certificates in Polymer Process and Mechatronics Technology, an Associate’s Degree in Mechatronics Technology, and the German VerfahrensmechanikerIn in Polymer Apprenticeship Certificate (DIHK).
